We are selective of the sins we highlight in our scripture quoting. We like the verses that point out the sins of others and tread lightly when speaking of our own. We see sexual immorality in the list of 1 Corinthians 5:11 and not greed. 2 Peter 2:14 speaks of those who have trained their hearts in greed, and thereby cursed their children. Some ministers exploit the people because of their own greed (2 Peter 2:2–3, 1 Thessalonians 2:4–5). “Keep your life free from love of money” Hebrews 13:5; it will be one of the great sins of the last days (2 Timothy 3:1–2) and it will be a sword that pierces the soul (1 Timothy 6:10). Jesus reminds us that we cannot serve God and money (Luke 16:13); the Pharisees, who thought of themselves as holy and devout, were great lovers of money (Luke 16:14).
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
