Greed has been baptized by some capitalist as a legitimate driver of the economy. In the Book, greed is on the bad list. (Romans 1:29; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5). Greed is covetousness at its best and is idolatry at its worse. Its drive to accumulate is destructive. It never has enough. It consumes and does not even allow enjoyment of what you have. It is the enemy of contentment. It cannot rest in the Lord for it has found better things.
“Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.” (Colossians 3:5 NASB)
