Greed has been baptized by some capitalists as a legitimate driver of the economy. In the Bible, greed is on the bad list. (Romans 1:29; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5). Greed is covetousness at its best and is idolatry at its worst. Its drive to accumulate is destructive. It never has enough. It delights in getting, not in giving. It consumes and does not even allow enjoyment of what you have. It is the enemy of contentment. It cannot rest in the Lord for it has found better things.
“Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.” Colossians 3:5 (NASB)
