To fret a bit when someone fails to give us credit for what we have done reveals something about us to ourselves, if we will take note.  Jesus taught that we give our alms in secret to avoid this trap.  It protects us from pride.  If we are doing our deeds to be noticed of men, then we get no credit from the Father.  “Leave vain things to the vain,” said Thomas a’Kempis.  Do what you do for the Father and out of love for Him, and you will not chafe under the load of not being recognized.

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:3-4 (NIV)
