We have an equal need to love and be loved. It is part of what it means to be human. God loves us. We give that love away to others. To fail to love others is to be sub-human. To love only for one’s self leads to disorder. To learn to cultivate true self-giving agape is to learn the purpose of life. To express love as service is to find satisfaction and fulfillment. Love is the evidence to ourselves and others that God lives in us.
“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” 1 John 4:10-13 (NASB)
