The Spirit is given to the believer to shape us to be the kind of person the Father dreams His children will become. “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him in love” Ephesians 1:4 (NRSV). We “are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit” I Peter 1:1-2 (NASB). God’s elective dream for us is holiness, taking on the likeness of Christ who is the icon of God (Colossians 1:15).
