When we put God in a box, we are the losers. The restrictions we place on Him, to contain or control Him, destroy our own freedom. The loss is immeasurable in the beauty we miss, the knowledge we lose, and the sense of awe at the glory of His holiness. The awe that we feel for our “God in the box” is really self adoration. “God in the box” cannot sweep us away in awe, because it makes us lose control. If you want to be free, to experience wonder, to walk in real worship, throw your God box away.
Father, forgive us for the sins of trying to shape and control You like we want You to be. Open our eyes to the freedoms we have forfeited by doing so. Have mercy on us!
