Idols “have mouths, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see” Ps 115:5. The God of Israel is a speaking God. He spoke through the prophets. In these last days He has spoken to us through His Son (Heb 1:1-2). He speaks to the mind and heart by His Holy Spirit. He speaks through the Bible. Our business is to hear what He has said and is saying. These are words to live by. They are saving words. We perish without them. He speaks through our stories. He speaks in creation. He speaks through the life of our neighbor. He can even speak through the words of our critics and enemies.
Father, give us an attentive openness to your voice. We need Heaven’s word for living life on this earth. “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.” Amen
