Jesus saw His mission as healing the brokenhearted and binding up their wounds (Lu 4:18). Jesus did not come to condemn sinners; since our mission is His mission, neither should we. He has not called us to condemn people; He has called us to come to their brokenness. They have been beaten up by their own sins. They are prodigals, a long way from home in need of a new understanding of the welcoming Father. They do not need moral rants; they need to hear the love of their waiting Father, and to know that they will find mercy.
“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” John 1:14, 16-17 (NRSV)
