Do you remember being frightened by preachers who told you how God knows all the secret things in your life? As you mature in the faith, you yourself are concerned about the secret things in your life for other reasons. It is because they are the things that reflect who you are. They are shaping you for good or ill into the kind of self you will one day present to God as a gift. You are glad God knows so He can help you to become what your heart longs to be.
“If we had forgotten the name of our God, or spread out our hands to a strange god, would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart.” Psalm 44:20-21 (NRSV)
