Sometimes we give a generous portion of grace to other people and a heavy dose of law to ourselves. Why do we do that? It is certainly not good for us. We may be hard on ourselves in order to get things done and excel. Perfectionism is a harsh master. It will never let us rest or accept our own selves. Someday we will be gone and folks will carry on quite well without us. So for now, learn how to receive the grace that you generously give others.
Father, forgive us for not receiving your grace. We have exalted our judgment about us above your grace toward us. You have declared us forgiven and accepted; we think we know better than You. Have mercy on us, oh Father. Forgive us! Teach us to rest in Your attitude toward us.
