“Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world” (James 4:8 NLT). God wants to be close to us. He has demonstrated it in the gift of His Son and His Spirit. His disposition toward us is not in question, therefore, we are invited to “Come close to Him”. When coming near we must look at our hands and our heart. Hands contaminated by sinful actions must be cleansed; a divided heart must be purified. We cannot draw near when there is disobedience and divided loyalty. Deal with everything that keeps you from drawing close and then draw near.
