The Fruit of the Spirit is not a pick-and-choose list. It is not to be, “I have this one, but not that one.” Of course we are not the same in our personalities, but what is spoken of here is the cluster that the Spirit Himself will produce in our lives when we are in the Spirit, when He is in us and when we walk in the Spirit. If we walk in dependence on ourselves, we will get what our personality, nature and nurture can produce. God’s mysterious design is that when He lives in us our fruit is coming from a purer source. When that happens, He gets the credit and not us.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23a NASB).
