The Christian view of freedom is so much different from the world’s view of freedom.  Christ has come to set us free from the slavery of sin to be His servant.  We are free to do as He pleases and not as we please. Freedom from the bondage of sin is to make us slaves of the right (Romans 6:12-14).  We are free to do right but not free to harm.  We are free to help but we are not free to hinder.  “It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles” (Romans 14:21).  Reckless freedom dismembers Christ’s body and destroys community.  Freedom to do what you want was tried in Eden, with no regard as to the consequences of the choice.  Human freedom that considers only me is sin and always ends in harm; using my freedom to do what is right in community relationships is called righteousness and results good (Romans 6).
