In our independent mindsets and glorification of individualism, we have been drawn to free-style theology and worship. It forces each person and congregation to reinvent the wheel. Often times these inventions end up leaving out tried and proven truths and practices that cause the inventors to come up with some very odd wheels. Informality is preferred over any tradition. However, truth does not begin nor end with us. To hear the truth that went before us is called tradition. Without it we end up with skewed theology and shallow worship. What Paul said of himself was true of all the apostles. “The God I worship with my whole life in the tradition of my ancestors” 2 Timothy 1:3 (MSG). We ignore tradition at our own peril and to our impoverishment.
