Money is very necessary in our world as an exchange medium for goods and services. With it we buy food to eat, shelter to protect us and clothes to cover us. Then there are costs of transportation, insurance, retirement, vacation, pleasure, etc. The simplicity of our agricultural past has been swallowed by our industrial technological world. It takes the discipline of work and careful management to survive today. Is there a way to be saved from greed and have Christian contentment in such a world? Yes! Examine motives. Watch against greed. Be generous. Know that you are a steward and God owns it all. Know that when you struggle, the Lord is your Helper.
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” Hebrews 13:5-6 (ESV)
