Joseph forgiving his brothers was a part of a larger understanding that he had of God’s work in his life.  God is always doing more in our circumstances than we can see or understand in our hurt and pain.  In looking back we may see a little of it.  Willingness to forgive can express belief that grace is working its purpose in my life.  In this way grace takes precedence over holding to an old grudge.  Forgiving enables me to trust God to continue to complete what He has started in me.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. Genesis 50:20-21 (NASB)
