The thing that most excited and animated the early disciples about Jesus’ resurrection was that it was completely different from a resuscitated human body. Jesus himself had raised three people from the dead, but His own resurrection was very different. His was a never-before-seen kind of body that made them know that the scriptural prophecies of new creation had finally arrived. They saw Jesus’ resurrection as the first-fruits of a great resurrection harvest yet to come.
“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep….But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming” 1 Corinthians 15:20, 23 (NASB).
