Rational human beings want to know that life and the things that happen in it have meaning, because meaning gives us significance. It is haunting to think that things are happening for no reason. God does not order everything that comes into our lives. It is just the way life works out on this fallen planet and the consequences of other people’s choices (millions of them). What I have learned is that if I surrender my life to come into solidarity with the incarnate Son, then and there my life takes on meaning. I am meant to be like Him in all areas, including my suffering. I have found meaning in full identification with my Lord in all of the circumstances of my life.
