What kind of faith does it take for a widow, with her only son, at the bottom of her resources, in the midst of a true famine and then to obey the call to feed a hungry prophet? What kind of faith does it require to divide your last meal? Can God provide out of nowhere when we get to the end of our resources? Go ahead. Gather your sticks. Bake your last loaf. Trust the word of the Lord. Trust the Lord of the word. He who multiplies wheat on a blade of grass can multiply it right in the meal canister. He who makes oil on an olive tree can make it in a jar.
“For thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the face of the earth.’ So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through Elijah.” 1 Kings 17:14-16 (NASB)
