“Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.” (Hebrews 3:5–6 ESV)
Hebrews 3:1 reminds us that believers are a household with a heavenly vocation. Moses was a servant in the house, but Jesus is the son. We are a part of this house by a faith-relationship. Faith is more than an initial moment of trust; it is a life-long relationship of trust and hope in our Lord. Moses was faithful in this house, Jesus was faithful in this house and we are faithful when we confidently cling to our hope. This is not having faith “to get salvation”, which puts something else at the center. This is a faith-relationship that keeps Christ at the center because we love Him. Salvation and sanctification (Hebrews 2:11–12) are the outcome of that loving faith-relationship.
