Moses tended sheep for his father-in-law, Jethro, who was known as the priest of Midian (Exodus 3:1).  Jethro gave Moses advice that saved him from overwork and burnout.  Abraham worshiped with Melchizedek and paid tithe to this king and priest of the “Most High God” (Genesis 14:18–20).  Israel being chosen for a specific mission did not mean that there were not others in the world around them who also loved and worshiped God; besides, their mission was to be a light to the “Gentiles”.  We want to think we have an exclusive claim on God and His message; we do not own truth, truth must own us.  We might want to think about what Jesus said,  “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you” (Matthew 21:31 ESV). Jesus told stories about how insiders became outsiders and outsiders became insiders.

Lord Jesus, grant us true humility.  Save us from the pride of exclusivity.  May we know that You are Lord of All and the great love You have for us You have for all others.  Help us to know that You are at work in more ways and places than we can imagine.  Amen!
