For the Son to return to the Father’s right hand was to vindicate His priestly sacrifice and to affirm that He still rules the Kingdom of God. “After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb 1:3b ESV). When He ascended into Heaven, it was not to withdraw from His kingdom, but to be enthroned over it. He is there to rule until all enemies are put under His feet. As Priest, He is there in solidarity with humanity, in His resurrected body, to intercede for us. He who is one with the Father, is one with us, and is our real atonement (at-one-ment). His intercession joins God and humans in His own glorified flesh.
