God calls unlikely people. Paul the persecutor. Matthew, the tax collector. James and John, sons of thunder. Simon the Zealot (a revolutionary). Peter, the rugged fisherman. God’s grace drew, trained and equipped them. God does not leave us as He found us; He changes us into what He wants us to be. The odd thing is, He enlists us and changes us as we go. He transforms us as He is using us; it is called on-the-job training. That is the way He made His first disciples and that is the way He makes us.
“For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.”(1 Corinthians 15:9-10 NASB)
