The gospel song said, “I cannot wait to leave this world of sin and sorrow!” We have heard a hundred variations of that escapism line. When Christ entered our space, He knew very well what awaited Him! He fully embraced a sinful world and its suffering. He stuck to it until He finished His work. That is our model! We have not embraced Him to escape the world and go off somewhere else. If we would be Christlike, we will not be trying to escape before our assignment is complete. We are to be fully engaged in our calling until He comes.
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Philippians 3:10, NASB).
