Jesus was the kernel of wheat that fell into the ground and died. It sprang up in a new body bearing fruit. This Wheat feeds us as the “bread come down from heaven that gives life to the world” (Jn 6:33). The fruit is the collective Body of Christ, the church. Those who follow Him also find a dying and resurrection that bears much fruit. In dying we live. In losing we win. In giving there is abundance. In surrender we conquer.
“And Jesus *answered them, saying, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.’” John 12:23-25 (NASB)
