Parents have a responsibility to teach and train their children.  Churches are responsible to disciple all ages.  The older should teach the younger.   The mature mentor the immature.  Discipleship is never a finished task.  It is ongoing.  It is done by reciting creed, reading passages of scripture in public worship, faithful teaching and solid expositional preaching.  What the church does not teach, it loses.  When disciples have not learned the basics of the creedal beliefs of the church, they fill in the blanks with distorted ideas.  Without teaching, we fall into the traps of a video clip and sound bite culture which is unable to think and process truth.

“You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.” 2 Timothy 2:1-2 (NRSV)
