We have heard it often at the grave of a friend or loved ones, “Earth to earth, ashes to ashes.” Sometimes crumbled flower petals are dropped to symbolize this; sometimes dirt is sprinkled to dramatize it. God made us out of the dust of earth and to its dust we all return. Amazingly however, Jesus Himself became a man of dust, to give us life beyond dust. He came to walk through our sufferings, sorrows, betrayals, crucifixions, deaths and tombs to life on the other side of all this.
“Your dead shall live, their corpses shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a radiant dew, and the earth will give birth to those long dead” Isaiah 26:19 (NRSV).
