Jesus started His ministry by saying, “Repent, the Kingdom of heaven has arrived.”  Later He would teach us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Jesus taught us to pray this prayer for good reason.  The Kingdom has come, is here and will come.  Given that reality, it is not our job to passively wait the fullness of its arrival in the future.  We are here to extend the Kingdom of God in our own lives and in the world around us.  We are to seek and promote the justice (righteousness) of God’s future kingdom now (Matthew 6:33).  We are thus to be bringing God’s future into the present.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:31–33 (NLT)
