There are divisions that are caused by Christ (Luke 12; 49-56) and there are divisions that are healed by Christ. Following Christ may bring divisions with friends and family. But there are divisions that are to be bridged between fellow Christians and other fellow humans by love for the sake of Christ. Even those who have rejected us because of our faith are to still be the objects of our love and the subjects of our prayers. God desires ultimate unity of the whole human family around His Son, who came to reconcile the world to God. We follow Him by peace-making, unity and reconciliation.
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19 (NASB)
