In your own prayer life learn to pray out loud. Spoken words in prayer commit us in ways that thinking our prayers do not. These can be whispered prayers; whispers are spoken words too. Spoken prayers can have a humble boldness in them. It changes “just thinking” into praying. It helps hold wandering thoughts in check. It gives verbal expression to our petition and becomes a statement of faith. Spoken words have the power of faith or the power of doubt in them. Our faith is not in our own words but in the Lord to whom the words are spoken.
“As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.” Psalm 55:16-17 (NKJV)
