There is a malignant force in the world, the Old Serpent, called Satan, or the devil. He is out to defeat you. Adam met him. Jesus met him. We meet his schemes every day, most of the time unknowingly. He tempts. He distracts you from mission. He wants to drag you down. He is relentless, but God’s grace is boundless. Satan is an opportunist, but your Shepherd is watchful. Satan is strong, but Someone in you is stronger.
“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world” 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NASB).
