Prayer running on the rails of selfish-asking is a train to nowhere. Prayers motivated by greed get nowhere with our generous Father and His sacrificial Son. Prayer running on a rail of selfishness is not really on rail but in a quagmire. This praying does not yet have the words of its Lord abiding in it. It is absorbed with its own words, not His words. It does not yet pray with the Spirit, allowing the interceding Spirit to help fashion the asking.
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7 (NASB)
