“But Lord, I accepted you as my personal Savior”. Might He say, “But you never accepted me for who I am. You never let me be the true Lord of your life. You shaped me like you wanted Me to be. Yes, you believed that you could use Me only for salvation. I often came to you and you rejected Me. I came as an alien, a stranger, the poor, the ethnic other, the prisoner, the sick, the lonely, the destitute, the single mother, the rejected child, the lonely senior, and the forsaken soul. Besides all this, you lived for leisure, pleasure and accumulation. You called yourself a Christian, but you never made any serious effort to really follow Me.” I looked and tears ran down His face and dripped onto His nail-scarred feet.
“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:22-23 ESV)
