Adam’s way of being like God was different from Christ’s way of revealing God.  Adam wanted power and position; he wanted to be “like God” for all the wrong reasons.  Adam chose the path of self-sovereignty.  Jesus revealed God as One who “emptied Himself of all but love”.  If we would be deified, then it will be through self-emptying love.  We cannot pursue the divine likeness until we know what it is; know this, it is perfectly revealed in Jesus. The divine image must be intentionally pursued by desire, full consecration, prayer, and discipleship; without this pursuit we are being shaped by what is pursuing us.  We are being shaped to be like Him or the world around us.
