“He has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (2 Peter 1:3 ESV). The early church fathers talked about deification as the goal of the Christian life. John Wesley saw deification as the meaning of sanctification. I want to be godly; God is like Jesus, therefore I want to be like Jesus. May the One who made man look at me, and as the great Sculptor, chip away all things in my life that do not look like Jesus.
