Every stream we ride flows in a channel prepared by water that went before it. Some of these waters have persistently cut their way through rocks. So much of the wisdom and ways we have learned, we owe to rich traditions that went before us. Knowledge did not start with us. We have walked in paths marked out by other feet. We pick fruit from trees planted by others. We drink water from wells dug by others. In our arrogance and self-sufficiency, we need to know this debt we owe; not just know it, but be grateful for it.
“Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you.” 1 Corinthians 11:2 (NASB)
