Looking at the cross as a place were Jesus died for me is foundational, but it is not the whole house. Growth in grace requires that we move beyond seeing the cross as the place Jesus died for us and begin to see it as the place we die with Him. Thanking God for the cross is one thing, but getting on it with our Lord is to take gratitude to a new level. Cruciform living is the life to which we have been called.
“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3-4 (ESV)
