The wrestling of Jacob with God gave him a wounded hip and his new name, Israel. Crippling encounters with God mark out the children of Israel. People who have all the answers never know what it means to wrestle with God. The self-sufficient cannot lock onto something beyond themselves. The closed minded refuse to wrap their arms around mystery. God is too big for us to figure out. He is too large for the borders of our boxes. He is too expansive for our narrowness. Grab hold of Him. He will grab hold of you.
“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor?” Rom 11:33-34.
