Stephen proclaimed Jesus as the completion of Israel’s story. He did it, not just with a good understanding of the story, but with the power of the Spirit. In knowledge he knew the story, but with wisdom he reinterpreted the story. The story ended with Jesus. The early preachers, including Stephen, a preaching deacon, used persuasion as their chief tactic. They did it with no gimmicks, no tricks, no entertainment, but with scriptural proclamation in the power of the Spirit. We still need that! All believers need to be saturated with the story and retell it with the anointing of the Spirit.
“But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.” Acts 6:10 (ESV)
