Before the fall, Adam and Eve had open communication with God. Being made in the image of God, our first parents were shaped by these regular encounters. In this relationship the first humans knew who they were: those made in the divine likeness. The conversations we have with God makes us remember who we are and why we are here. Sin makes us want to hide from Him. Time with our Father should keep us from sin’s death-dealing traps. In conversations with the Father we are regularly infused with the life of God by His Holy Spirit.
They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.” Genesis 3:8-10 (NASB)
