The old sacrificial system cleansed the flesh but not the heart (Hebrews 9:12-14). The ceremonial could not reach the ultimate sacramental goal, cleansing the heart and conscience. Christ’s blood did that. Don’t forget though, we are cleansed to serve. We are to serve the unclean out of our cleansing. We are to embrace the unwashed because we have been washed. No one is saved to sit; no one is saved to be idle. Serve the living God out of the life He has given you.
“How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14 (NASB)
