The wise men searching for a future Jewish king disturbed Herod to his core.  What followed was the slaughter of Bethlehem’s male children, age two and under; children unjustly killed by a power-hungry insecure king.  The tears and sorrow of mothers and fathers that sad night is a forgotten part of Christmas story.  Tears, sorrow, depression and grief still visit during the Christmas season.  Sad memories, past hurts, present dysfunction, loneliness, poverty, random evil may all bring Christmas tears.  Let’s be sensitive in our joys to those who are experiencing sorrow.

“A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.” Matthew 2:18 (NRSV)
