Jesus perfectly modeled humility, when, He, God, became a man. He never exploited His divinity for His own purposes. His humility was self-emptying. the Highest became the lowest; the King of all became the slave of all. He came not to be served but to serve; He washed dirty feet. In a competitive consumerism culture true humility eludes us because we have forgotten how to pursue it; the fact is we are not interested in pursuing it. We have became full of pride, harsh, disrespectful, self-serving and self-promoting. We do not want to be last. A Christianized Christianity must recapture the mind of Christ.
“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 (NRSV)
