The Christian faith is meaningless apart from Judaism.  Jesus came as the promised fulfillment of the covenant God initiated with Israel.  That’s why when you read the sermons recorded in the NT they all involve the retelling of the story of Israel with Jesus as its final fulfillment.  That is why the early church, following synagogue worship style, read long passages from the books of Moses, the prophets, and sang the Psalms; they added to this the memoirs of the apostles, which included both the gospels and the epistles.  The reading of the ancient Scriptures helped them understand who Messiah (Christ) was and why He came.  When we no longer read these as a part of worship, we are prone to become provincial, national, and rootless in the faith we proclaim.  If we would Christianize Christianity we will need to get back to the ancient words.

25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
