His body died but His soul descended into Hell. While we think nothing is going on during Holy Saturday, our Warrior King has entered the fray to defeat the Devil, Death and Hades. Christ assaulted the gates of Hell. “18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18 ESV). This verse does not mean that the gates of Hell (Hades) are pushing against Jesus, but rather that Christ has assaulted the gates of Hell and its firm hinges, ripping them from their place. The One who had turned over tables in the temple broke down the prison bars of human souls. Captives freed! Gates of Hell broken down! Paradise opened to all who receive Jesus! The Lamb wins!
