Christ Descended to and Preached in Hades (5)
When Jesus was crucified ,He not only defeated the rulers and authorities, He disarmed them. He humiliated them. He triumphed over them. This was not only something that happened to the Roman political authorities and the Judean religious authorities; it happened to the forces of darkness, the Devil and His demonic powers. The Prince of the Power of the Air (Ephesians 2:2) , The god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) has been defeated by the strong man who has broken up his house (Mark 3:22-30).
“That their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; when He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” (Colossians 2:2-3, 9-10,15 NASB).
