Throughout all time Hades has claimed its victims. But One entered there who appeared also to be a victim by the process of a cruel crucifixion. But to the surprise of Hades, He enters, not as victim but as Victor. Through Him the powers of death are defeated when Jesus Himself triumphed over them. Jesus has changed what it means to die. The one who believes in Jesus lives even if He dies and thus whoever believe in Him will never die as those previous occupants of Hades did.
Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:24-26 (NASB)
