We need to put Christ back into Christian. We have divorced being a Christian from following the actual teachings of Jesus. We think that the Sermon on the Mount is not relevant for today. We have excused ourselves from His very plain teaching. Be a real apprentice (disciple) of the Lord. Do not avoid the cross and its sacrifice. We who follow a non-violent Savior cannot promote and condone violence in the defense of our causes. Emmanuel came by way of the cross in self-emptying humility. That is not an easy way, but it is His way. Some amplification of the word Christian might help us: “Christ-ones”, “anointed-ones”, “little Christ”. When is the last time you have been mocked as a “little Jesus”? That mockery would be a compliment. Let’s put Christ back into Christian.
