Thinking that leads away from truth leads toward captivity. Actions that lead away from obedience leave us in bondage. Satan promises pleasure, and then celebrates our addictions. He promises freedom, and gives chains. As an angel of light, he promises knowledge, and then leads us to confusion, of which he is author. A key part of the work of the Kingdom of God is to bring trapped souls out of captivity by gentle instruction in truth and careful soul care.
To pastors Paul wrote, “Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.” 2 Timothy 2:25-26 (NIV)
